Specifying

Filled & honed or tumbled

Filled & honed closes the natural pores at the factory for a smooth matte floor that is easy to clean. Tumbled leaves the pores open and softens the edges for a rustic look — grout fills the pores on site.

Formats and layout

Large formats (16×24, 24×24, 24×36) suit open floors; 8×8 and 8×16 work as borders and in the French pattern set. Vein-cut and cross-cut options are quoted per collection.

Indoors and out

Keep 1.2 cm tile to mortar-set interior and covered work; for open exterior paving specify the 3 cm paver from the same collection.

Questions buyers ask

What is the difference between honed and tumbled travertine tile?

Honed tile has a smooth matte face; filled & honed additionally has the natural holes filled at the factory. Tumbled tile is run in a drum so edges and surface soften and the pores stay open, giving the antique look — pores are filled with grout on site.

Is travertine tile still in style in 2026?

Yes. Travertine is one of the defining materials of current interior design — warm, matte, mineral — used in floors, feature walls, fireplaces and even furniture. Filled & honed ivory and silver tones lead in specification, with tumbled classic blends steady in patios and pool areas.

Can travertine tile be used in showers and bathrooms?

Yes, with a sealer and a proper waterproofing membrane behind it. Filled & honed is the usual choice for shower walls; honed or tumbled on floors for grip. Polished travertine is best kept to walls.

How is travertine tile sold — by the box or the pallet?

By the box within pallet quantities from our New Jersey stock, or by the container direct from the quarry for larger programs. Pieces per box and square feet per box are listed on every quote.
