Is Travertine in Style in 2026? What the Trade Is Specifying

Light ivory travertine floor in a bright living space.

Every few months someone types "is travertine out of style" into Google — the question appears under our own listings as a "People also ask" box. The short answer for 2026 is no; travertine is having its strongest run since the early 2000s, and this time it is being specified differently. Here is what the numbers and the order books show, and what it means if you are buying for projects rather than for one house.

What the search data says

Three signals, all from US search behaviour this year:

  • "Travertine tile" draws about 13,000 searches a month, more than "marble tile" (roughly 6,000) — and the difficulty of ranking for it is near zero, which tells you demand has grown faster than the supply of serious pages about it.
  • Travertine furniture has become a category of its own. "Travertine coffee table" runs around 6,400 searches a month, "travertine dining table" and "side table" a few thousand between them, and the branded queries around them belong to Pottery Barn, West Elm, CB2 and Williams Sonoma — mainstream retailers carrying travertine pieces. The stone has moved from floors into the living room.
  • The outdoor side is steady and commercial: "travertine pavers" (3,500 a month), "travertine pool deck" (1,900) and "pool coping" (6,300) carry the highest advertiser value of any stone terms we track, because the people searching them are pool builders and landscape contractors with a job to price.

How the specification has changed

The travertine of 2004 was tumbled, heavily veined, laid in a Versailles pattern and grouted dark. Some of that is still specified — the French pattern remains the best-selling outdoor layout — but the interior request has flipped:

Filled & honed, not tumbled. Designers want the mineral character of travertine without the open pores. Factory-filled, honed tile reads as a soft matte plane and cleans like porcelain.

Ivory and silver, not gold. The light blends — Ivory Blend Premium and Classic Light Premium — and silver-grey stones such as Silver are the interior palette. Walnut-brown Noce and the gold Autumn Blend are used as accents and outdoors, where warmth is the point.

Larger formats and slabs. 16″×24″ and 24″×24″ tile, and slabs for counters, benches and the tables that retailers are selling. The 8″×8″ piece survives mostly inside the pattern set.

Vein-cut for walls. Cross-cut travertine is the familiar cloudy face; vein-cut shows the stone's layers as parallel lines and has become the feature-wall and fireplace specification. It is a block-selection request, so it is ordered, not stocked.

What it means for a trade order

If you are stocking for builders, three lines cover most 2026 requests: an ivory or light blend in filled & honed 12″×24″ and 24″×24″ for interiors, the same blend tumbled in the French pattern and 3 cm pavers for outdoors, and a silver-grey in both. Add walnut as an accent and you have the palette retailers and designers are showing.

Pool programs are unchanged in colour but more demanding in profile: drop-face and eased-edge coping is replacing bullnose on new gunite pools, and the coping is expected to come from the same block selection as the deck.

For everything else — hospitality floors, furniture blanks, feature walls — the request is increasingly for slabs and cut-to-size, which is where a direct quarry program and a US warehouse matter more than a price list. GoodzHub stocks the core formats in Lyndhurst, NJ and runs container programs for the rest; the travertine collections page lists every format by collection.

The honest caveat

Trends end. What protects a travertine specification from looking dated in 2035 is restraint: the calm blends, the matte finish, the large format, the matching coping. The heavily veined, dark-grouted floors of the last cycle are the ones being torn out now — and that is a design lesson, not a material one. The stone that paved Hierapolis two thousand years ago is still there.

FAQ

Is travertine still in style in 2026?
Yes — it is one of the defining materials of current interior and outdoor design. US searches for travertine tile run around 13,000 a month and travertine furniture searches (coffee, dining and side tables) have grown into the tens of thousands, with mainstream retailers carrying travertine pieces. Filled & honed ivory and silver tones lead interiors; tumbled classic blends hold pool decks and patios.
Which travertine colour is most popular right now?
Ivory and light blends for interiors and pool decks, followed by silver-grey for contemporary schemes. Walnut (noce) is used as an accent — borders, outdoor kitchens, feature walls — more than as a whole floor.
Is travertine a good choice for a modern house?
Yes, in filled & honed or brushed finishes and larger formats (16×24 in, 24×24 in, slabs). The matte mineral surface is what modern interiors are asking for; the tumbled rustic look belongs outdoors and in Mediterranean schemes.
Does travertine hold its value in a renovation?
Natural stone floors and pool decks are consistently listed among the finishes buyers pay for, and travertine is the most affordable of the classic stones. Its risk is fashion, not durability — which is why the trade is specifying the calmer ivory and silver blends rather than the heavily veined stones of the 2000s.
